Kindness is one of the most beautiful ways we can reflect God’s love in our daily lives. It doesn’t have to be grand or elaborate. Sometimes it can be as simple as offering a smile, a kind word, or a helping hand. True kindness is contagious.
When we experience it, it stirs something within us and often inspires us to pass it on. It reminds me of how a little spark gets a fire going. Kindness often begins as a small spark: a simple gesture, a word of encouragement, or maybe even a smile. That spark has the power to light warmth in someone else’s heart.
One day, while I was waiting inside of a local business, I witnessed a simple yet powerful act of kindness. A lady nearby was on the phone patiently inquiring about a part she needed for her vehicle. In just a few short minutes, she found herself on two calls. Based on her conversation, she didn’t know the people she was talking to nor could she see them, but as she spoke, I heard her say “Hello, beautiful” and “Thank you, gorgeous.”
She couldn’t see the people, but her tone was so genuine and uplifting that her words seemed to fill the space around us. You could feel her kindness radiating through the phone and into the atmosphere. Kindness was a part of her character.
As she began to exit the business, she offered more compliments and words of encouragement. I was even a recipient of the spark of kindness, and I made sure she knew that what she was doing made a difference in the lives of people she touched.
That small moment left a deep impression on me. It reminded me that words carry power. They can lift, heal, encourage, build up, and inspire. Her kindness created a spark in my own heart.
Later that day and throughout the week, I made a point to be intentional about spreading kindness, too. I offered sincere compliments, assisted seniors while delivering meals, offered food to someone who was homeless, and I tried to make others feel seen and appreciated.
Each time we choose kindness, even in a moment that may seem insignificant, we add a spark of light to the world. We sure can use a little more kindness right now. When hearts carry the spark of kindness, communities can change for the better.
Kindness is the spark that grows and multiplies in unexpected ways. I’m reminded of a few scriptures:
- Colossians 3:12 “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” (NIV)
- Galatians 6:9–10 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people.” (NIV)
- Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” (NIV)
It only takes a spark to get a fire going, so let a spark of kindness be what you use to make a difference in your
community, this nation, and in the world.
When was the last time someone’s kindness deeply impacted you?
