Dealing with Fear

Dealing with Fear

By Lois Evans

I sought the LORD, and He answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.

—Psalm 34:4

Just like our other human emotions, fear is a gift of God to be used for His purposes. For example, the fear of God is a holy reverence for Him that leads us to obey Him because we realize His power and His love for us. This is a healthy form of fear. The Scripture says, “In the fear of the LORD there is strong confidence.” (Prov. 14:26), and, “The fear of the LORD leads to life, so that one may sleep satisfied, untouched by evil” (Prov. 19:23).

The devil knows our weaknesses and fears and preys on us where we are weak. But we have all the power of God available to us.

So what are some practical steps you can take to overcome fear? First, you can begin to overcome fear by yielding yourself to the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit, knowing that He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world (see 1 John 4:4).

Second, we believe that Jesus Christ can solve your problem, and live like it! Claim victory every minute of every day. Every time you feel you are about to succumb to fear, remind God of His promise “I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you” (Heb. 13:5).

If we are not careful, we can deny with our lives what we say with our lips. Since I have been seeking the Lord to help me with my fear of flying, I can’t tell you how much more relaxed my life has become. In fact, I am writing these lines in an airplane, waiting to take off from New Mexico to Los Angeles!

Fear activated the devil. Faith activated the Lord. Which do you want to be active in your life?

Let’s talk about it:

What steps are you taking to overcome fear?

  1. the bible says we should be still and know that he is God. He also said that we shall decree a thing and it shall be established and he shall cause his light to shine upon our ways. The expectations of the righteous shall not be cut off. The Lord will never forsake us AMEN!
