Too Perfect

Too Perfect?

An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels.
— PROVERBS 31:10

Whenever I wonder how a Christian wife and mother can find the time and energy to do all the things she needs to do, a biblical image comes to mind: the “excellent wife” of Proverbs 31.
I am convinced that if we women are going to see ourselves in the proper light, we must run the searchlight of God’s Word on our lives. And that light shines very brightly in Proverbs 31:10-31.

This woman demonstrated a fervent love for the Lord while loving, supporting and serving her husband and family. And yet at the same time, she developed the abilities and gifts God gave her as an active woman in her community.

Many women today think the Proverbs 31 woman is almost too perfect. They argue that no one can match the standards portrayed by this woman.

But I don’t believe God put this profile in the Bible to frustrate women because we feel like we can’t measure up to the ideal. Instead I believe God is inviting us in the power of His Holy Spirit, to strive toward this portrait of a godly woman, wife, mother and businesswoman.

In case you are wondering where to begin today, I invite you to look at Proverbs 31:30. “A woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. “ Here is the key to this woman’s life, or any woman’s life. When our walk with the Lord is in its proper place of priority, He helps us balance and prioritize other responsibilities.

Proverbs 31 does not imply that you have to do all the things this woman did in order to emulate her example. As God to help you serve and love Him and your family right where you are, and He will make it clear if he has other callings for you. — Lois

  1. Wow, I love this perspective. We can rely on the Holy Spirit’s power to help us become this woman when we “Fear the Lord” and surrender to His calling on our life!
